Applying Trauma-Informed Care to Maternal Mental Health
A CE Webinar Presented by Carly Pytel, PhD | Hosted by the Arkansas Psychological Association
Women’s mental health during pregnancy and the postpartum period does not exist in isolation from the rest of their lives. Past traumatic experiences can shape how women move through pregnancy, how they experience labor and delivery, and how they engage with the care and support available to them. This one-hour webinar is designed for mental health providers who want to better understand the connection between prior trauma and maternal mental health, and to strengthen their use of trauma-informed approaches with pregnant and postpartum women.
Dr. Carly Pytel brings her fellowship training in Trauma Psychology and her focus on women’s health in integrated care settings to offer practical, evidence-grounded guidance that providers can apply directly in their work.
Learning objectives:
Participants who complete this webinar will be able to:
- Describe the impact of past traumatic experiences on women’s mental health during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.
- Identify the ways in which prior trauma can affect engagement with medical care during peri- and post-natal periods, and its broader impact on mental wellbeing.
- Apply trauma-informed care principles to support women’s engagement with services during pregnancy and postpartum.
Even Months: Professional Development

This webinar is free for ArPA members. Registration is open and will remain available through the time of the event.
Disaster Mental Health
Wednesday, July 15, 2026 | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CST
Join us for a peer consultation on disaster mental health, an approach to caring for survivors in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.
When disaster strikes, conversations about recovery often focus on rebuilding communities: homes, roads, and infrastructure. What gets forgotten is the mental health of the people living through it. This session brings that conversation back into focus.
Dr. Laura Rohm, President-Elect of ArPA, will moderate a discussion on effective strategies to help Arkansans in the most critical situations following a disaster.

About the Moderator:
Laura Rohm, PsyD serves as President-Elect of the Arkansas Psychological Association. Her leadership reflects ArPA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring psychology professionals are equipped to support Arkansans, including during disaster recovery when mental health needs are too often overlooked.
Session Focus:
This peer consultation offers space to discuss what disaster mental health support actually involves, share strategies for the most critical situations, and consider how psychology professionals can help ensure mental health stays part of the conversation during community rebuilding efforts.
Presenters:
Arielle Marston, PsyD is a licensed clinical psychologist with clinical experience spanning private practice, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and academic settings. She has been providing affirming care to transgender and gender diverse individuals since 2016, and specializes in body shame and acceptance, religious trauma, and late-diagnosed neurodivergence.
