The Arkansas Psychological Association (ArPA) thrives through the dedication of members who step forward to lead, serve, and shape the future of psychology in Arkansas. Whether you’re ready to take on a leadership position or simply want to learn more, we invite you to explore opportunities to serve on our Board of Directors or one of our standing committees.

Board of Directors Positions


Important Information

Board positions require election by the membership. Directors serve staggered two-year terms (except President-Elect which is a three-year progression). Directors are limited to serving no more than two consecutive full terms.

President-Elect

Principal officer who presides at meetings, appoints committees, oversees ArPA operations, and coordinates with APA.

Progresses from President-Elect to President to Past President.

3-year progression term

President

Serves as the principal officer of ArPA. Presides over meetings and provides overall leadership.

Past President

Provides continuity, chairs Constitution/Bylaws and Policy committees.

Treasurer

Oversees financial accounts, develops annual budget, submits financial reports, assists with grant proposals, and approves travel expenses.

2-year term

Secretary

Manages meeting notices and minutes, serves as Parliamentarian, and coordinates with Executive Director for official records.

2-year term

Directors-at-Large (4 positions)

General board members who attend all meetings, participate in governance decisions, and may chair specific committees.

2-year staggered terms

Student Board Member

Elected by Student Affiliate members to represent student interests and perspectives on the board.

1-year term

Diversity Representative

Serves as Chair of the Diversity Committee and advocates for inclusion.

2-year term

Executive Committee


This leadership team addresses urgent matters between Board meetings and ensures smooth operations.

Members: President, President-Elect, Past President, Treasurer, Secretary.

Standing Committees


Communications Committee

Coordinates ArPA publications, website content, newsletter, listserv, and media relations. Manages advertising and official statements.

Chair: 3-year term + 1 year Past-Chair

Constitution/Bylaws Committee

Chaired by Past President. Reviews and proposes changes to bylaws and develops policies and procedures for daily functioning.

Automatic appointment for Past President

Diversity Committee

Fosters inclusive environment, increases diverse membership and leadership, provides multicultural education, and promotes community involvement.

Chair serves as Diversity Representative on Board

Ethics & Professional Practices

Provides continuing education on ethical conduct, serves as consultation resource, and promotes professional standards in accordance with APA guidelines.

Chair appointed by President

Fellow Status Review Committee

Reviews Fellow applications and makes recommendations for recognition of significant contributions to psychology as science and profession.

Chaired by Director: majority Fellows

Government Relations Committee

Monitors legislative activity, provides guidance on legislative action, and encourages member advocacy for psychology interests.

Chair: 3-year term + 1 year Past-Chair

Membership Committee

Reviews membership applications, examines credentials, grants appropriate memberships, and promotes membership growth throughout Arkansas.

Chaired by Director

Professional Development Committee

Coordinates conference programming, continuing education activities, APA-approved CE credits, and maintains accreditation standards.

Chair: 3-year term + 1 year Past-Chair

Public Education Committee

Coordinates public education activities, promotes psychology’s value to the public, and provides information about mental health services.

Chair: 3-year term + 1 year Past-Chair
